Cookie Policy

Why do we have a Cookies Policy?

1.1       The reason we have a Cookies Policy is to explain to you what cookies and similar technologies we use, why we use them, and what you need to do if you want to restrict, block, disable or delete them. Our Cookies Policy is part of, and is subject to, our Privacy policy which explains how we use personal data.

1.2      Our website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our website. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our website and also allows us to improve our site.  By accessing and/or using our website you confirm that you accept the terms of this Cookies Policy.

2          About Cookies

2.1       A cookie is a text file placed on your computer, tablet, mobile phone, or other device ("device") when you access or use our website. There are also technologies similar to cookies (e.g. clear gifs) that do the same. Data is collected because it can be necessary to a website’s operation, to assess and/or improve its performance, and/or to provide a personalised experience etc.

2.2       Cookies may be either "persistent" cookies or "session" cookies: a persistent cookie will be stored by a web browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date, unless deleted by the user before the expiry date; a session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed.

2.3     Cookies do not typically contain any information that personally identifies a user, but personal information that we store about you may be linked to the information stored in and obtained from cookies.

2.4     To find out more general information about cookies, please visit  https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/online/cookies/.

  • Marketing cookies. These cookies record your visit to our website, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We will use this information to make our website and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose.
  • Targeting These cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. 4          Use of pixels in emails

4.1       If we send emails to you and you choose to download the images within them, they often contain a single “web beacon pixel”.  We use these as they tell us if our emails are opened, how many times, and tells us if you have clicked through to links within that email.  We use this information to:

  • Work out which emails our readers find more interesting;
  • How engaged our readers are with our products;

4.2       When you delete the email, the pixel will be deleted.  If you do not wish the pixel to be downloaded to your device, you don’t need to download the images in the email and the default setting is to view the email in plain text only.
